A secret oasis in the mountains with a stunning modern home, lavish decks & acres of options: including an epic fire pit, mountain backdrops, midcentury sports cars & an all-original chrome Airstream.
Just north of Mulholland Dr, 15 minutes to the 101 freeway, 20 minutes to downtown Malibu and beach, 45 minutes from Hollywood, rental includes ample off-street parking and base camp setup areas. This location sits safely within the TMZ so permits are from LA Film, not Malibu Film office and therefore much easier to acquire.
Accessible 5 acre property offers varied terrain, a sloping meadow to scenic mountain overlook, for a range of TV/film production and photoshoot opportunities. Unique indoor/outdoor open architecture house, and a nature trail with view of the Santa Monica mountains.
HOUSE:
The house pulls you in with its open plan interior, inspired by downtown artists' lofts and Japanese Shoji style sliding walls, which redefine interior space functionality as needed per shoot. Hidden shower and sink counter are open to the exterior for unique photographic opportunities. Large window seats offer unique feature settings. The bed is open to the exterior for dramatic mood shots with full length curtains to redefine the space as needed. Glass front wall retracts for fluid indoor/outdoor transition shots.
EXTERIORS:
From outside, the house has simple design character, dark grey corrugated steel exterior and flat stucco planters blend with the surroundings. The expansive front patio, with Castlerock mountain as backdrop, is perfect for large, social gathering shoots. Rear patio designed to create character of a German beer garden with long table shared seating. At night, exterior lighting, combined with large fire pit with mountain backdrop and hidden glass walls, create a seamless indoor/outdoor experience.
Sports Cars: A 1979 Airstream, a sexy 1967 Austin Healy 3000 & a 1969 Mustang convertible available to shoot for an additional $400 fee.
Mountain Trail: A secret mountain trail winds up the mountain behind the house and crosses over a seasonal stream - great for wilderness shots. The trail ends at a flat plateau for equipment set up and staging. View of the Santa Monica mountains to the west, Conejo Valley to the north, scenic Castlerock mountain to the east.
Seasonal Pond: Approx 1/4 acre pond fills up with winter rains, has boat potential until summer when it starts to dry up. Great for a Creature of the Black Lagoon remake!
PLEASE INQUIRE FOR RATES. Because of ongoing projects inside the house, Ranch Moderne has two separate rates: one for shoots requiring full access to interiors ($3k minimum, depending on occupancy), and for small shoots utilizing only the exteriors, kitchen & bathroom.
