Appalachian Abbey Near Harpers Herry

This antebellum church-turned-getaway is cozy and quirky, a unique structure with historic significance. The cornerstone of Trinity Lutheran Church hints that the 1848 congregation was the first when Knoxville, MD was an antebellum boom town. Moved to the current site after the war, in 1873, it settled into peaceful mediocrity as the railway station and its industrial clamor went to nearby Brunswick. In the early 2000's this lovely building was rehabilitated as a rustic country getaway just a brisk walk along the Potomac River from the tourist attractions in Harpers Ferry, WV, The first floor offers all the comforts of modern living and the former altar area, behind the original communion rail, has been transformed into a large, open concept living room. Natural lighting illuminates the church through skylights and stained glass windows. A master suite with full bath includes an oak work desk and large vanity as well as a twin bed. The second floor includes plenty of floor space and a second full bath with whirlpool situated just below the large bay window and belfry. The third floor loft features exposed beams and a skylight that opens to let in the fresh air.
