Historic Manor

The Historic estate is on 12 acres with a 900 SF guest house and a huge pond. The space is steeped in history and beauty as the former estate of both the Brooke and Gaither families for which the towns of Brookeville and Gaithersburg are named. A magnificent 3-story cantilevered staircase built of Walnut, Cherry and Pine milled on the property in 1857 and unique to Montgomery County greats guest inside its front entrance. At just under 6000 sq. ft., the house is built primarily of stone with 18-inch thick walls covered with stucco for a uniform and pleasing appearance. Variable width wood plank floors and real plaster walls contribute character along with features such as the "secret passage" behind the stairwell wall. An exposed stone hearth in the kitchen exudes charm in this updated colonial period home. A stalwart stone wall built in1927 surrounds the courtyard providing privacy and seclusion for family activities. The stone ruins of a19 th century bank barn lie to the southeast of the house producing a pleasing view from that side of the property. Currently next to the bank barn stone walls exist an apiary (i.e., beehives) operating successfully due to the abundance of water and flora on the property and from which Clover Hill Honey is produced.
