Once a bustling WWII pilot training base, This Field was home to daring cadets mastering Ryan PT-22s, PT-17 Stearmans, and even P-40 Warhawks. After its closure in 1944, it became a storage site for vintage aircraft before fading into obscurity—except for occasional use as a crop-dusting airstrip. Covering 127 acres (51 ha) at an elevation of 153 feet (47 m), This Field features a 2,300 x 60 ft (701 x 18 m) asphalt runway.
Today, history comes alive at this Field Army Air Corp. Many original wartime buildings still stand, including the administration building, hangar, radio room, and barracks offering visitors a glimpse into the past. Hollywood even took notice—this Field made a brief yet memorable appearance in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
