Built into the slope of a forested hillside, the house seems to emerge from the landscape like a dark sculpture—an architectural statement of creative intent. The exterior is clad in black Hardie Board, evoking a Scandinavian retreat; absorbing light by day and glowing softly at night through vast panes of glass that punctuate each level. The structure cascades down four stories, with the bottom three having access to the multi-tied decks that overlook a valley of green. The main floor—street level—feels understated from the front: a minimalist entry with an oversized solid wood door, framed by a single ribbon of glass revealing hints of the artistry inside. But as you move through, the space opens dramatically to a light filled open-concept kitchen, dining and living room. Whimsical architectural details punctuate the living spaces at unexpected turns. Over the past three years, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been dedicated to the restoration and rethinking of this home to enhance its innate beauty. Everywhere, the design celebrates contrast: hard and soft, light and shadow, precision and play. Art, music, and experimentation live in its walls.
