When I bought this residential multiplex last summer, I was determined to give it that wow factor - and I did.
This one-of-a-kind tiny home/luxe hotel room/modular multi-functional laneway house has got the goods. Without fail, jaws drop whenever anyone walks into the space.
Shortly after buying the property, which includes a backyard and another, entire several floor house, in early September, I got to work. The gound-level unit that backs onto a wide laneway for easy access, already had a bathroom, shower and kitchen. I just made it beautiful, functionional and fully equipped with everything from a coffee maker to a washer and dryer, a "flying toilet," as I like to call it, a giant Murphy Bed, a 65 inch TV with incredible sound and a Firestick. And a cloud couch that you will suck you in like Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors. Except it's legit gorgeous.
As I was designing the space - and, in large part, building it with my own hands, often throughout the night over two months late last year, I wanted it to be as multi-functional as possible. That's why, within minutes, everything inside - all the furniture and everything else - tucks into its own drawer or space and transforms into a completely empty-looking space. It can accommodate anything from an art gallery to an artists' studio, photography studio to a gym or even the perfect venue for dinner parties. Or large parties. It has two large garage doors - one is all glass - at either end that open fully; one onto the laneway. The glass door at the other end opens onto its own backyard.
The floor is epoxied - and entirely heated! - so it's not only beautiful. But also toasty on cold nights and days and anytime as well as durable (there is a mini split and fan in the unit as well, so there are three sources of heating and/air conditioning). You can park a car or two in the garage, if you so desire, or drive them right through the space into the aforementioned backyard.
(I even have an upright grand piano on the first floor of the main house that can come outside for musical performances.)
This unique space also has a regular door with a code lock for access from the laneway side. But you can also get to it from the front and north side of the house.
Two skylights on the 11 foot ceilings flood the space with natural light.
More, it's got white walls, high-gloss white cabinetry and the decor's got a contemporary, Moroccan vibe - because that's my jam. However, absolutely everything in the space can be completely emptied and decorated to anyone's taste. Everything moves!
If I do say so myself - and heck! I will - it is the coolest space of all time. In my humble opinion.
