The Old Bank House

The Old Bank House was built in 1873 by the Bank of Victoria. The bank manager and his family lived in the residence, while the front room, now the parlour, served as the local banking chamber. Set on approximately one acre and surrounded by established heritage gardens, the house retains almost all its original features. With its weatherboard construction, expansive verandahs, limewashed tongue-and-groove walls and ceilings, French doors and original fireplaces, it is a rare surviving example of an Australian colonial homestead built during Victoria’s gold-rush era. The surrounding streetscape is equally distinctive. Bank Street retains its original 1870s bakery, butcher’s shop, church, hotel and former Commercial Bank, creating an unusually intact period setting. The Old Bank House offers a rare and atmospheric glimpse of colonial Australian life, ideal for film, television, period productions, photography and editorial shoots.
